Coward Gladiators of The Modern World

A gladiator ("swordsman", from the word gladius which means "sword") was an armed combatant who entertained audiences in the Roman Empire in violent confrontations with other gladiators, wild animals, and condemned criminals. Some gladiators were volunteers who risked their legal and social standing and their lives by appearing in the arena. Most were despised as slaves, schooled under harsh conditions, socially marginalized, and segregated even in death.


Irrespective of their origin, gladiators offered audiences an example of Rome's martial ethics and, in fighting or dying well, they could inspire admiration and popular acclaim. They were celebrated in high and low art, and their value as entertainers was commemorated in precious and commonplace objects throughout the Roman world.


Bravery, courage, honor and strength were among the words that describe this warriors. They were the respected men of the arena, feared for their abilities, respected for their beliefs. Times have changed, modern gladiators are depicted in different scenario but lives by the same values, they could be the CEO that takes a company from zero to glorious in 10 years, they could be the soldiers who safeguards the border so that we are save in our homes. They could even be the father who raise their child well and prepares him to face the tormenting world, they are our heroes, in any light that we see them in. Just like the Roman gladiators, they do not beat their chest in pride and yell that they are indeed gladiators, the respect for them is earned...


Then comes the modern coward gladiators, who self proclaim themselves as apparent leaders of society, who dictates their followers and subjects to surrender and demands that the respect is given to them. This post is dedicated to this 'coward gladiators' who oppress others, especially the ones who think it is an act of might to harm their women.


Recently, I stumbled upon a coward gladiator, a man who married a lady who loved and out of that love, respected this beast. He in turn, took it that it was a sign of his might and glory that a woman could devote all her heart and soul to loving him. A gladiator would fight another warrior of the same stature, if not mightier to proof his worth, on the other hand, you have this coward who hit his woman and presumes that it his symbol of being a man...


You must have understood my drift here, but just so in case, some other coward gladiators were to stumble upon this post, let it be known that it does not make you a man of grandeur, neither does it proof that you are mighty brave if you were to raise your hand towards a woman. Let it be clear that only a coward and a bully that, perhaps compensates his 'short'comings in other areas by hitting a woman.... You lady, does not deserve to be called a man, but simply a scumbag for your attitude and behavior...
